Risk It: Now’s the Time to Get Started

I’ve spent a lot of my life sitting on ideas. And a few years ago, I had a wake up call. It came in the form of a surgery that went sideways and took me a year to recover from, when it was only supposed to take a couple of days. In the aftermath of the surgery and infections I developed, a lot of things hung in the balance. Did I have an underlying disease that caused the complications? Was medical malpractice the source of the issues? I had a choice. I could be consumed by the all of the unknowns or I could put my energy into something positive and life giving even though I didn’t know what would happen.

I leaned into my faith. And quietly started pursuing a new creative outlet.

I’ve always loved making and creating things, but working in the creative field, a lot of my work is on the computer. I needed to do something with my hands and find some healing in the process, even if it was just mentally and emotionally.

I started pouring every ounce of my energy outside of work into developing a line of clean beauty and body products under the name Clover Bloom. I know most people start small. But faced with a lot of questions, I decided to go bigger and give it my all.

I’m about three or four years in, and it’s slow going, but I’m so grateful that I decided to take action when I did. Because I could still be sitting on the dream and desire that was within my heart to pursue.

Building your own business or side hustle involves a lot of invisible work, but when you really care about something, it almost doesn’t even matter whether people see or don’t see what you are putting into it. Because you know you need to go after it.

So my call to action would be: What are you sitting on? What are you quietly thinking about? What are you waiting to do? Time’s a wastin’. Get started. The only risk is not risking it. No matter where it goes or where it leads, I think you’ll be happy you that you at least put it into the world, and who knows, maybe it could be the start of something great.
